With unwavering determination and an indomitable spirit, Mathushigan has emerged victorious, leaving an indelible mark in the world of swimming. His journey from Thanushkody to the Gulf of Mannar is a testament to his exceptional abilities and serves as an inspiration to all aspiring athletes.

A Journey of Perseverance

Mathushigan's journey to conquer the Palk Strait was preceded by a prelude of tremendous dedication and hard work. Having swum 20km at Galissas Beach, he showcased his prowess and readiness for the monumental feat that awaited him. Starting his swimming training at the tender age of twelve at Batticaloa's Weber Stadium, Mathushigan's talent flourished, leading to numerous victories in provincial and open level swimming competitions. With a total of twelve medals to his name, his journey towards conquering the Palk Strait was a culmination of years of relentless pursuit of excellence.

Support and Encouragement

Mathushigan found immense support and encouragement throughout his arduous journey from various sources. His parents, father Thangaiya Davendran and mother Akalya Roshini, recognized his potential early on and supported him wholeheartedly. The Ocean Biome organization, dedicated to marine activities, along with his school alumni, played a pivotal role in nurturing and honing his swimming skills. Their unwavering belief in Mathushigan's abilities helped him turn his passion into remarkable achievements.

On the 28th of May 2023, Mathushigan Thavendran etched his name in history as he successfully completed his awe-inspiring feat of swimming across the Palk Strait, starting from Thanushkodi and reaching Thalaimannar. With the tenacity of a true champion, he braved the challenging waters, facing every obstacle with unwavering determination. This incredible accomplishment will forever be remembered as a testament to Mathushigan's resilience, strength, and unyielding spirit.
