Additionally, his passion for sports led him to actively participate in volleyball and football teams.

His pursuit of higher education took him to the prestigious University of Peradeniya, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree and later a Master's degree. Under the guidance of renowned professors, Prof. Mounaguru expanded his knowledge and honed his skills in the field of literature and fine arts. His thirst for learning led him to complete a diploma in education at the University of Ceylon, Colombo, and a PhD at the University of Jaffna.

Prof. Mounaguru embarked on his teaching career at Kalmunai Zahira College, laying the foundation for his lifelong dedication to education. He then ventured into textbook writing before returning to teaching. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities, including lecturer, principal, and Head of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Eastern University. Notably, he assumed the role of Acting Vice Chancellor of Eastern University in 1997. His theatrical debut came at the age of 16 when he performed in the koothu play "Pasupadham" on the stage at Vantharumoolai University. Vithiananthan, he worked on projects such as "Karnan Por," "Nondi Natakam," "Ravanesan," and "Valivathai," which aimed to modernize and preserve traditional art forms.
